Irish offence explodes in rout!!
With yet another poor showing for numbers, eight brave skaters took to the ice against the Saracens on Saturday night, Feb. 1st. Thankfully, the Saracens themselves had personnel problems, as they only had 4 extra skaters on their bench at the drop of the puck. The Saras started well by getting 4-5 qualities chances on the Irish net, only to be turned away by the eventual game MVP, goalie Rene Leclerc.
Six minutes into the game Peter Ameli snapped in a goal that gave the Irish the lead they would not relinquish. Steve Parke then deflected a point shot home for his first of two. On defence, Yearwood, Miller and Turlo turned away wave after wave of Saracen offensive attacks. The scoring came in droves as Ameli finished with four, Petrie sniped 2, Turlo scored 2, and Bergeron scored 5. Yes, this doesn't equal 13, but the timekeeper stopped adding the goals to the Irish total. Neil Maxwell had 6 quality chances including two breakaways, with the closest he came to scoring being a snap shot off the post. Nice hands.
The Irish hope to have a full team out for their next game, which will be a home venue with time and place to be announced.
