Black rally shades Green in inter-squad opener
Playing indoors on Fieldturf
and in March no less, the Black team edged Green 31-30 in the annual ICRC
intersquad match on Friday. Playing 10 a side, the players were able to get a
game-type experience early as the club gets ready for its most challenging
pre-season ever.
A mix of veterans and rookies played an entertaining if somewhat rusty
game at The Docks Dome on Good Friday. Impressive amongst the newcomers were
Steve Orchard (Queens U) who led the greens with 4 tries and spot on line out
throwing; Brad Noble (Auckland U), John Ki (McGill U) and Yoshi Niwa (IBM,
Japan).
"It felt great to play again" said Irish captain George Azar "and
this will really help the guys get ready."
Regular training commences on Saturday April 2 at Newtonbrook SS, 11:15 am,
followed by the huge ICRC Poker Night at the Rose and Crown.
