THOMPSON NAMED TO PLAY AGAINST SCOTLAND "A"

In a decision that shocked many in various rugby circles, Mark (Flipper) Thompson has been selected to start at open side flanker against Scotland "A", tonight at Richardson Stadium in beautiful Kingston, Ontario.  Thompson last played in the Irish third team on Saturday, May 25th, and according to some reports, did not stand out, but for his unfortunate tendency to drop to ball during opportune moments.

After checking all rugby records across Canada, it was found that Thompson's step up through 5 levels of rugby from the 3rd's to the Canada East side, is an international record.  The International Rugby Board is verifying this information with their records, but for the time being, Thompson has his name in the history books.

We caught up with Mark after a training session with his Canada East team mates in Kingston yesterday and he agreed to be interviewed for the this website.

ICRC:     Thanks for speaking with us Mark.

Mark Thompson:    My pleasure.

ICRC:    Is this your first time representing Canada?

MT:    Well, I was named to Canada Under 19 in 1995, and I played against the Welsh Development Squad with Ontario in 2000.

ICRC:    Does that really count though?  Wasn't Dave Bergeron on that team?

MT:    Yah, I guess you're right.

ICRC:    How did you pick up the nickname?

MT:    What nickname?

ICRC:    Flipper.

MT:    I wasn't aware of it.  My team mates have nothing but respect for me so I'm sure you have been misinformed.

ICRC:    If you say so.  When did you find out that you had been picked for Canada East?

MT:    Well, I have revealing pictures of John McMillan in a catholic school girls outfit, so it was a done deal when this match was announced.

ICRC:    Well, that makes sense.  Anything to say to your Irish Canadians mates back in Toronto?

MT:    Yes, I do.  Winokur, you're in the pictures with McMillan so don't be shy to pick me when I get back.  I've got my eyes on you Fauker!

ICRC:    Are you worried about the fact that legally, you're not allowed to return to Queen's University, or even be in the vicinity of Kingston for that matter?

MT:    No, it's all been worked out.  I knew that Burger King ketchup container incident would come back to bite me on the ass!!

ICRC:    Are you proud of your new record of jumping 5 divisions to Canada East?

MT:    Extremely.  It shows that with a little bit of hard work, anybody can represent.  Thompson's in the house!!  Yaaahhhh!!

ICRC:    Whoa... OK then... Thanks for speaking with us.

(Good luck to Dale, Ed, and of course Mark against Scotland "A")
