Fergus joins the Marshall Division
With the last-minute collapse of the Barrie RFC, the Ontario Union shuffled the deck, bringing Fergus Highlanders into the Marshall Division to replace Barrie. This means that the next league match for all three teams will be in Fergus next Sunday May 27.
Fergus, a small town just north of Guelph, had some success in the B division last year, finishing second and winning many close games. They upset Ottawa Irish in round one of the cup 18-16 before failing at Balmy Beach 22-8 in the quarter final. They also ran the ICRC close 11-10 in the Brantford tourney, but drew 3-3 with Ajax in the league opener last week.
"This is a very dangerous situation for us," notes Irish coach Mark Winokur. "These are a very scrappy bunch who are awkward to play against, and they will be fired up for this game. We must take it very seriously."
The games will be played Sunday to avoid conflict with the Canada /Argentina game on Saturday. The Irish host The Academy the following Saturday as the official warm-up game for Canada/England at Fletchers.
