LETTER TO THE
MEMBERSHIP OF THE CLUB
FROM PETER AMELI - PRESIDENT
SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2002
As I write this letter, the
ICRC is in the process of having one of its best seasons in recent history, with
all 3 teams doing extremely well, capped off by the first XV securing the league
championship last week.
The reason for this letter,
however, refers to other issues that relate to the club as whole, and it has
been asked of me by the ORU, to communicate to the membership at large, with
regards to these issues.
The ICRC has a strong
tradition of success both on and off the field.
We have some of the most amazing people both past and present who have
represented the club and its values, in
an exemplary fashion. Through my 30
years with the club, I know I have been personally enriched by the quality of
character represented by our group.
Although, we may be aware of
this, many may not. How we carry
ourselves on and off the field, as spectators and players alike, reflects on all
of us, and demonstrates to others the nature of our values and approach to the
game.
As such, I
would ask you to consider the following as a member of the ICRC:
As a spectator or player, show empathy, understanding, and respect to those
in charge of officiating the game.
Being a referee is not an easy role to play and they deserve a
respectful environment in which to perform.
As a spectator or player, carry your self in a manner that demonstrates
respect for the game, other players, and those in an officiating capacity.
As a spectator, use constructive and supportive language when sharing your
views to existing players.
As a player, appreciate the support former players give to you, and the club
as a whole. They offer their
time, energy, and passion for the game to make it a better experience for
all.
As a spectator or player, use language and mannerisms that are respectful and appropriate, such that the receiving party may not construe it otherwise.
We truly have one of the
best clubs around. Many consider us
the ideal club to play with, and our continuing work to encourage former players
to be a part of today successes, gives us a tremendously strong platform for the
future.
I trust that you will
consider my comments and bring them into practice as an ambassador for the club.
See you at the McCormick
Cup!
Yours Sincerely,
Peter K. Ameli
President
ICRC
