A long trip and much preparation resulted in an anti-climatic 57-5 rout of
Ottawa Scottish at Twin Elm on Saturday.
On a cloudy, windy afternoon, the Irish ran in nine tries in 60 minutes to
advance to this weeks quarter final match v Brantford at Fletchers.
Pre-game talk was around the Scots 7-7 record in the B, including wins over
all the top sides save Markham, but with the exception of an emotional and
committed first 15 minutes, there was little on offer.
"We got some exercise and no injuries," said Irish coach Mark Winokur,
"apart from that, we were somewhat sloppy with the ball and were uneven in
our overall effort. Much improvement needed to win next week."
Istevan Mozes with four, Mark Thompson, Chris Gallimore, Ian Parker, Kyler
Petrie and Rob Forbrigger scored for the Irish, with Ed Gardner six from
nine on conversions. Referee John Smith ended the match five minutes early.
The Development side left their tackling ability at home and were beaten by
York 29-0 in Round one of their division playoff series. They are also at
home on Saturday, hosting Balmy Beach at 1:30.
