Irish
struggle, but sweep Highlanders
Erasing a 12-0 deficit, the ICRC
ran in four tries to beat Fergus Highlanders 29-19 in Ontario
League action at Fergus Sunday.
The Highlanders came out all guns
blazing and led 12-0 after just 19 minutes, but two late tries in
the first half and almost constant pressure in the second took the
Irish clear and earned another bonus try win for the team.
"The game went just as
predicted, unfortunately,' said Irish coach Mark Winokur, "we
slept through the opening bell and had to buckle down to produce
the right result. Spilled balls and bizarre option choices need to
be overcome. Nonetheless, we got the five and thats what counts in
the end."
Dave
G.Bergeron, Istvan Mozes, Mark
Thompson and George Azar scored
for the winners, who face The Academy at Fletchers next Saturday
at 1:15 as the official warm-up game for the Canada / England test
match.
Fergus were extremely fired up for
their first ever A division home game, and will pull a few
surprises along the way.
The development side broke a 14-14
halftime tie to win 22-17 at Fergus, and the Timberwolves (3rds)
blanked Fergus 15-0 to round out the day.
