Irish Crush Centaurs in Burlington
On a cool cloudy day at
Sherwood Park, Irish Canadians ran in six first half tries to defeat the newly
promoted Burlington Centaurs
50-3 in pre season action.
James O'Shea, Dale Burleigh, George Azar, Peter Smith, Jason Verstraten and
Tommy Madden crossed within the first 35 minutes against a home penalty only.
Andrew Yearwood and Kyler Petrie touched down in the games late stages in a
sloppy second half that featured de-powered scrums by Burlington and 14
penalties against the Irish in the second half alone.
The Development side blanked their hosts 41-0.
Stand out newcomers in the firsts were Dave Stratton and Lance White, while
Kevin Turlo and Jeff Sampson shone in the development win.
Coaches comments:
Some very good passages of play in the first half; discipline still an issue;
ball retention improved and defence adequate against a game and physical, if
somewhat unimaginative opposition; still operating 25% below optimum for league
play.
Next Saturday, the Firsts travel to Montreal to face the Menace of the Rugby
Canada Super League.
Game time at Lower Canada College is 5:30 pm. The Development Squad are hoping
to enter the Oshawa Vikings "Chris Krause" tourney, stay tuned.
