Irish Women disappointed vs. Saracens
The Irish
Women 2nd XV took to the field for the first time this season and
walked off with an extremely disappointing 22-31 defeat to the hands of the
Toronto Saracens. The Irish marched
out to dominating 22-0 halftime lead only to see a reversal of fortune in the 2nd
half. In a game of two different halves, the Saracens scored 5 trys
and 31 unanswered points to turn the tables on the Irish who were making their
debut in club colours.
Perfect
execution of the game plan led to Becky Lee, Barb Lamb and Kristin Konieczny
touching down in the first half. Cheryl
Morris added two conversions and a penalty goal to round out the scoring.
Unfortunately the Irish lost their structure and composure and the huge
comeback by the Saracens dominated the play in the second half.
“I am
extremely disappointed with the final result, especially after such a dominating
first half,” commented Head Coach Koko Lozada.
“The 2nd team is a very young and inexperienced team and
sometimes it is tough for them to keep their consistency over an 80 minute game.
This is not the end of the world and we will be there at the end of the
season.”
The season gets into full swing next weekend as the 1st XV takes on Waterloo County and the 2nd XV face the Toronto Nomads both games at Fletcher’s Fields.
